Insurance Built for How You Operate
Whether you run one truck or ten, we build coverage packages that match your operation — not a one-size-fits-all policy.
Owner-Operators with Own Authority
If you hold your own FMCSA operating authority, you are legally required to carry specific insurance coverage before your authority can be activated. Without proof of insurance on file with the FMCSA, your MC number stays inactive and you cannot legally haul freight.
As a single-truck owner-operator, your coverage package typically includes five core policies. We build each package around your specific operation — your cargo type, lanes, equipment, and driving history — so you get the coverage you need without paying for what you don't.
Typical Owner-Operator Coverage Package
Commercial Truck Liability
FMCSA minimum $750,000 (general freight) or $1,000,000 (hazmat)
Physical Damage
Protects your truck itself against collision, fire, theft, and weather
Motor Truck Cargo
Protects the freight you haul while in your care, custody, and control
Bobtail Liability
Covers you when running without a trailer or outside of dispatch
Occupational/Accident Coverage
An alternative to workers comp for independent owner-operators
Required Filings
Activating your FMCSA authority requires specific insurance filings:
- Form E — Proof of insurance filed directly with the FMCSA on your behalf by your insurer
- MCS-90 Endorsement — A financial responsibility endorsement attached to your liability policy
- BMC-91 — A surety bond filing required for freight brokers (referenced here for awareness)
We provide guidance and referrals for all required filings. When you bind your policy with us, we coordinate with your insurer to ensure your Form E and MCS-90 are filed promptly so your authority activates without delay.
Fleet Operators (2–10 Trucks)
Running a fleet means managing more risk across more vehicles, more drivers, and often more cargo types. A single-truck policy structure does not scale to meet the needs of a multi-unit operation. Fleet insurance requires a tailored approach that accounts for your entire operation — not just individual trucks.
We work with fleet operators to build coverage packages that insure multiple units under coordinated policies, manage driver records and risk profiles across your team, and address varying cargo types and operating radii within your fleet.
Larger fleets often qualify for volume discounts and package pricing across multiple coverage lines. We shop all major carriers to find the best combination of price and coverage for your fleet's specific operation.
Fleet-Specific Coverage Considerations
Workers Compensation
Required in Texas for employers with W-2 employees — covers medical expenses and lost wages for on-the-job injuries
Occupational/Accident Coverage
For fleets using independent contractors rather than W-2 employees — provides similar protections without workers comp requirements
Umbrella/Excess Liability
Extends your underlying policy limits when a claim exceeds base coverage — critical for multi-unit operations
Flexible Billing Options
We understand cash flow matters in trucking. That's why we work with carriers that offer multiple billing arrangements — including monthly installments — so you can keep your operation moving without a large upfront payment. Ask about available billing options when you request your quote.
